I. Community Gardens

Intro: Sites are shown from many popular geographic areas, such that different communities can see each other’s work, borrowing good ideas from each otherand perhaps networking together.  Usually one site per geographic area is all that is shown. Consumer Supported Agriculture has been recently receiving
media news coverage.   }some of their food feeds the poor. DL 2011 Replacement:   }helping small and family farmers to sell direct to the public, etc.   }the American Community Gardening Association’s page.    }colorful productive gardens in Arizona. DL 2013. Replacement:   }this is their new site. But we also have these related links now:    }the community foodbank and garden list for southern arizona, with photos; and   }list of  all community gardens in Arizona. This link is good, and the site is there. If Word won’t link to it, cut and paste, or link from your e-mail.     }recipes for DIY Community Gardens. DL 2011  2013: Replacement:   }how to build a community garden. But we also found:   }almost all photos, and DIY steps for community gardens, from one of the most crowded cities in the world, Tokyo.   }more formal description with history of CSA farms. CSA=Community Supported Agriculture.   }more of the virtues and uses of Community Garden.    }the Burlington, Vermont pleasant site. Like others, they do mini-grants, greenbelts, etc.   }list of all their gardens.   }list of agricultural co-operatives.   }sample rules and regulations of a Community Garden.   }how they do it in Germany.  }Seattle's view of a Community Garden.   }American Community Gardening Association Garden picture archive.   }a source of non-GMO seeds. DL 2011 This link, sadly, is down, and searching the site yields no info on where/how to obtain non-GMO seeds. Update 2012:   }We found this site as a good replacement. Clean, simple site, nice colors, homepage a little crowded. “We offer only the cleanest 100% non-hybrid, non-GMO, chemical free produce seed, to allow you to plant your own gardens, feed your families and friends, and then harvest your seed to save for use the following planting season.”   }service site for Community Garden. DL 2011. 2012 Update:  We found their homepage here:   }this site provides stipends for those who want to start community gardens! “Community Gardens As Appleseeds” is a registered 501c3 non-profit with no overhead that provides help to people interested in community gardens in their town, neighborhood, school or place of worship. Messages to Community Gardens As Appleseeds can be sent to the following email address: .”  }organic-looking site from the Southwest. A nice, simple site.  }another co-op directory service.     }co-operative grocer’s food co-op directory, with 311 members, and their e-zine, with topics, back issues, and resources.   }the concept of community gardens can be expanded to CSA, and then to Community Food Systems, as they have done in this primer. Recommended, for example, if you’re a gardener and want to become involved with local food distribution.   }a good site for finding and ordering heirloom vegetable. Clean site, color photos of products. About the annoying voiceover on the home page: use Zap to turn that off. If you don’t have the script for that, go to   }and follow the steps to add these bookmarks to your browser. We don’t know for sure if these heirloom seeds are non-GMO, but that seems to be implied.   }community food gardens in Toronto, Canada. Clean, simple site. Their community guidebooks and fact sheets   }have HTML and pdf manuals, guidebooks, etc. for what they call, “community driven naturalization”. The pdfs are natural and community garden manuals.    } the food gardens foundation, in Africa! “Food Gardens Foundation also known as FGF was established in 1976 under the name of Food Gardens Unlimited, as a result of the June 16 riots in Soweto, Gauteng.  At that time there were no food supplies going to Soweto as vans were overturned at every opportunity available.  Two ladies Pauline Raphaely (a geologist) and Joyce Niland (a farmer's wife) saw a need and started the organization out of R100 to introduce Food Gardens in Soweto.  These gardens were letter called Peace Gardens and as a result of this the organization won several awards.”   }Community Garden in Dallas, TX.    }New York City. ”A unique mix of education, organizing, and advocacy to help people cultivate community gardens…” Clean site.   }An intro to community food gardens. The point of most community gardens is to provide healthy, safe food, but there are many other kinds of garden sites on the web. These links are for community food gardens.     }Chicago's Community Garden and "green-net", which shows what other communities can do.   }search by state of zip code for CSA in your area. These are almost the same thing as community gardens. This site also has good links. 2012 Update:   }new URL for this site.   }photo of a Community Garden (Waltham, Mass.), and links (which may be hard to see).   }well-developed site, community has large garden.   }the food gardens foundation. “established in 1977 under the name of Food Gardens Unlimited, as a socio-economic project to teach people to help themselves by growing essential food according to sustainable organic principles.” CFG is a part of this larger website and organization. What can happen when CSA, etc., are systematized and developed.   }complete info about RainGardens, and the RainGarden network.    }Because of its healing properties and the Velcro-like hairs, you can use a comfrey leaf just like a bandaid. If you want to sterilize it, dip it in boiling water, then let it cool and apply to minor wound. Comfrey is known for its healing qualities. It was referred to as "Knitbone" traditionally, as it is known for knitting together tissues and promoting cell growth. It was also referred to as "Bruisewort" as it is known to reduce swelling and bruising when applied to injuries as a poultice or compress. Leaves in poultices and compresses have been applied to varicose veins and arthritic joints, as well as diaper rash. Warm, smashed or bruised leaves applied to an inflamed injury are said to help reduce swelling and bruising, as well as reduce scarring.  }shows all "p-patch" Community Garden, with a very thorough and complete linklist for Community Gardeners. The entire site is gone. 2012 Update: We wanted the English to be still included on our list; so, we found:   }”Carmarthenshire County Council’s Housing team have been working closely with tenants, residents and young people to improve the areas around which they live and to develop environmental enhancement and community food growing schemes.”

II. Co-ops.
Intro: Sites are shown from many popular geographic areas, such that different communities can see each other’s work, borrowing good ideas from each others
and perhaps networking their areas together.  Usually one site per geographic area
is all that is shown. Some of these co-ops are more community-active, some are
more politically-active, etc., some are simpler. We have avoided the big business health food stores, since there is something inappropriate about them; think of, say, Whole Foods.  Note: “coop” denotes the extant term “coop”, i.e., a place where chickens live. A co-operative enterprise is abbreviated “co-op”, that is, with the hyphen.  }nice list of sister-organizations. DL 2011 This link is down now; however, they’re still there at    }their homepage. They have a great farmer’s market there:  }info about it.   }in Bozeman, Mt., with a fancier website design.   }an example of utility co-ops; list of utility co-ops from all over the country.  }Marietta, Ga. List of online organic stores.     }national locator for health
food stores and natural co-ops. A fast and excellent site that has all the co-ops listed.   }”Paper or Plastic? How ‘Bout Neither?” Another good co-op from New York. “GreenStar, like many co-ops, has taken steps to help combat global warming and needless litter by implementing a few simple, but significant changes. We encourage customers to bring their own bags by offering a $.05 rebate per bag brought in to reuse and by selling reusable bags in the store, at a range of prices. Recognizing that many people will still want to be offered a bag while checking out, GreenStar switched a few years ago to more sustainable options.” Recommended that you read this article, and that Greenstar increase the rebate to 10¢  per bag brought.    }co-op in Jamaica Plain,  Massachusetts. Find the others at:    }this page also has GMO info links.    }one in Northfield, Mn.; a knitting-circle meets there.   }Lakewinds Natural Foods, a full-service cooperative grocery, has served the western suburbs for over 35 years and currently has locations in Minnetonka and Chanhassen, Minnesota. “Lakewinds, along with other natural food retailers across the country, is celebrating Non-GMO Month. Why bring attention to this controversial issue? As you may know, genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) are commonly found in conventional processed foods, but there is a movement in the natural foods industry to use a non-GMO verification seal on packaged food to indicate when it is GMO-free.”    }Albuquerque, Gallup, and Santa Fe co-ops.    }grocery and café in Marietta, Georgia.   }database listings of food co-ops.   }”The MORNINGSIDE BUYING CLUB began in 1983 as an effort to purchase good wholesome food in bulk for our family and a few friends and neighbors. III. Energy Systems.
Note: Some of the energy systems presented are speculative or experimental. The object for the reader is to think-outside-the-container. What you think isn’t possible, for you,  isn’t possible; but this holds the rest of us back. The future has arrived; carpe diem.     }news of wind power generation.   }wave energy, tidal, marine currents, thermal energy. a thorough PDF. DL 2011. You can check out what happened at   }and see what happened to the link. This important subject is hard to find info on. For example, Wiki has been having problems with it:   }scroll down and you’ll see the same pdf that I listed, there. We’re very dismayed to report that most of Wiki’s links are dead now, too, except for    }which is only a sensor and doesn’t generate electricity. There’s more scientific info on   }which is Wiki’s archived page on it. This page   }lists the same pdf above again, but with some other interesting stuff. This is probably the best page on offshore alternative energy generation that’s extant:   }but it’s bureaucratic, not scientific. Our apologies.   }alt. transportation fuels, others.   } commercial site with many appropriate products. The actual equipment you would buy for DIY and small-scale efforts, or, buy in large quantities for large-scale efforts.     }wind systems, solar, parts, supplies.      }alt. energy classes (for folks in Hudson, Mass.).   }many Tesla links and other links.   }Tesla coils are composed of coupled resonant electric circuits. Tesla developed a series of coils that produced high-voltage, high-frequency currents. In the majority of Tesla’s experiments,  he used machinery of his own design to produce the Tesla effect.   }The radiant energy system is a self-oscillating capacitive system. Once it is set into oscillation, very little power is expended in keeping it going. Because it is an electrostatic oscillating system, only a small amount of charge moves through the system per cycle, that is, the coulomb per seconds = amps are low. If the charge is used at a low rate, the energy stored in the system will be turned into heat at a slow rate enabling the oscillations to continue for a long period of time. Tesla's "Coil For Electro Magnets," patent #512,340 is a very special coil design because, unlike an ordinary coil made by turning wire on a tube form, this one uses two wires laid next to each other on a form but with the end of the first one connected to the beginning of the second one. In this patent Tesla explains that the double coil will store many times the energy of a conventional coil.   }Scalar electromagnetics links, a long list. Recommended.   }Tesla Scalar Wave Systems: The Earth As A Capacitor by Richard L. Clark. Nikola Tesla engineered his communications and power broadcast systems based on the Earth as a spherical capacitor plate with the ionosphere as the other plate. The frequencies that work best with this system are 12 Hz and its harmonics and the "storm" frequency around 500 KHz. The basic Earth electrostatic system and the basic Tesla designs are shown in the figure below. All lengths or circuits must be one-quarter wavelength or some odd multiple of it.   }scalar electromagnetics.        }good biomass article. 2011 Update: this page is still there but the contents have changed. Try:    }surveys the various kinds of biomass generation. Also   }gives important info about biomass generation.    }The most objective and informative page about magnet therapy we have found yet. Explore the rest of this site for lots of excellent info on alternative medicine.   }Overview:  Molecular manufacturing (MM) can solve many of the world's current problems. For example, water shortage is a serious and growing problem. Most water is used for industry and agriculture; both of these requirements would be greatly reduced by products made by molecular manufacturing. Infectious disease is a continuing scourge in many parts of the world. Simple products like pipes, filters, and mosquito nets can greatly reduce this problem. Information and communication are valuable, but lacking in many places. Computers and display devices would become stunningly cheap. Electrical power is still not available in many areas. The efficient, cheap building of light, strong structures, electrical equipment, and power storage devices would allow the use of solar thermal power as a primary and abundant energy source. Environmental degradation is a serious problem worldwide. High-tech products can allow people to live with much less environmental impact. Many areas of the world cannot rapidly bootstrap a 20th century manufacturing infrastructure. Molecular manufacturing technology can be self-contained and clean; a single packing crate or suitcase could contain all equipment required for a village-scale industrial revolution. Finally, MM will provide cheap and advanced equipment for medical research and health care, making improved medicine widely available. Much social unrest can be traced directly to material poverty, ill health, and ignorance. MM can contribute to great reductions in all of these problems, and in the associated human suffering.   }Historically, biomedical research has been based on two paradigms. First, measurements of biological behaviors have been based on bulk assays that average over large populations. Second, these behaviors have then been crudely perturbed by systemic administration of therapeutic treatments. Nanotechnology has the potential to transform these paradigms by enabling exquisite structures comparable in size with biomolecules as well as unprecedented chemical and physical functionality at small length scales. Here, we review nanotechnology-based approaches for precisely measuring and perturbing living systems. Remarkably, nanotechnology can be used to characterize single molecules or cells at extraordinarily high throughput and deliver therapeutic payloads to specific locations as well as exhibit dynamic biomimetic behavior. These advances enable multimodal interfaces that may yield unexpected insights into systems biology as well as new therapeutic strategies for personalized medicine.    }how to get financial incentives for renewable energy: loans, grants, rebates, etc. Database of state incentive for renewables and efficiency.       }the Mother Lode of sustainable living. 2011 Update: they have 5 new videos to watch on this site now. One of them is about Findhorn. Check it out.    }Scientists at Culham are preparing for an experiment in 2013 in which they hope to break their own record of 16 megawatts of fusion power. The doughnut-shaped reactor at Culham, known as the Joint European Torus, or JET, can take an amount of fuel about equal in mass to a postage stamp and heat it to more than 100 million degrees Celsius — hotter than the sun. This creates plasma, which in turn releases energy. Eventually, scientists hope to create enough energy, and at sustained levels, to produce electricity using steam-driven generators.   }very informative site; see the FAQs. Think outside the box.   }Probably more significant is news from the Joint European Torus (JET), a magnetic confinement fusion facility in the UK. JET is very similar to the ITER nuclear fusion reactor, an international project which is being built in the south of France. Whereas NIF and Sandia create an instantaneous fusion reaction using heat and pressure, ITER and JET confine the fusing plasma for a much longer duration using strong magnetic fields, and are thus more inclined towards the steady production of electricity. JET’s breakthrough was the installation of a new beryllium-lined wall and tungsten floor inside the tokamak — the doughnut-shaped inner vessel that confines 11-million-degrees-Celsius plasma (pictured above).   }Finally, we found information that RADAR was used to generate artificial plasma / literally LIGHTNING at the MIT research labs… C-band and S-band.. again.. same bands that NEXRAD RADAR use.   }another well-made commercial site, geothermal, etc. DL 2011. 2012 Update: Here instead is   }”Ormat Technologies, Inc. is a leading vertically integrated company dedicated to providing solutions for geothermal power, recovered energy generation (REG) and remote power.”   } According to the UW team, Dynomak builds on existing technology, such as an ITER-developed cryogenic pumping system.
Technically, its a spheromak, which means that instead of a torus, it’s a simple oblate spheroid. There’s no central core and it doesn’t need the large, complex superconducting magnets that ITER uses. Instead the  magnetic fields are produced by putting electrical fields into the center of the plasma using high temperature superconducting tapes wrapped around the vessel, so, in a sense, the plasma contains itself.,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.42452523,d.eWU&biw=1280&bih=845&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=iwYdUYLzK5Oe8QSzxYGQCg#um=1&hl=en&tbm=isch&q=diy+wind+generator+plans    }DIY wind generator plans custom search.   }primarily PV systems for the Great Lakes area. The store will be heated and cooled by a geothermal heat-pump system that extracts heat from the ground  even in the depths of a Minnesota winter. “  }A practical example is through the use of nanotechnology, the light and energy generation of crystalline silicon solar cells or organic solar cells can already be enabled or significantly increased. Their manufacturing also requires less material and is more cost-efficient. In addition, energy storage capacity will significantly improve with the use of nanomaterials for lithium-ion batteries. This is by far the most important battery technology for energy storage since the early 1990s. It is especially important in view of the constantly increasing demand for electric vehicles, whose success is also directly linked to battery performance and resulting range extension.   }commercial site for all alt. energy systems; a portal. Two key components of the thruster are the RF antennas that generate a Rotating Magnetic Field (RMF), which produces azimuthal plasma currents and form the FRC, and the flux conserving rings, which provide radial pressure balance to the FRC.   } hydrogen, fuel cells; energy storage batteries, supercapacitors; distributed generation; microturbines etc.   }good commercial site, equipment for sale, etc.    }A duplication of Edward Leedskalnins' - 'Perpetual Motion Holder' shared courtesy of Matthew S. subsequent emails, for the sake of clarity, Mr. Emery has included photos which are all posted in this document.   }By way of example, solar cells have been around for decades however one of the drawbacks is that they don’t work well on cloudy days, because the older technology is based on harnessing the energy of visible light. Now new technology based on plastic composite materials is being researched that can create solar cells that are able to harness the sun's invisible, infrared rays. National Geographic reported in January of 2005 that scientists had combined nano particles called quantum dots with a polymer to make a plastic composite that can be sprayed onto other materials and used as portable electricity. Several non chemical energy storage techniques have been developed over the years, mostly for very high power applications and while all of them have been used in practical systems, apart from capacitors, there has been slow take up of the ideas up to now. Some examples are given here.   }Batteries and Other Energy Storage Devices. The range and diversity of batteries used as a source of electrical power is truly enormous, reflecting the immense range of uses of electrical power. They range in size from tiny button cells storing milliwatt-hours of energy and delivering microwatts of power to giant load levelling batteries, the size of buildings, storing megawatt-hours and delivering megawatts. The diverse range of applications has spawned a multitude of specialist batteries, each optimized for a particular use. Some of the applications for which unique batteries have been designed are outlined below.   }Batteries. Cell Chemistries - How Batteries Work. Nano-coated, wear resistant drill probes, for example, last longer for the development of oil and natural gas deposits or geothermal energy.  Further examples are high-duty nanomaterials for lighter and more rugged rotor blades of wind and tidal power plants as well as wear and corrosion protection layers for mechanically stressed components (bearings, gear boxes, etc.). Nanotechnologies will play a decisive role in particular in the intensified use of solar energy through photovoltaic systems. In case of conventional crystalline silicon solar cells, for instance, increases in efficiency are achievable by antireflection.    }residential fuel-cell systems.   }an assortment of alt. energy sys., including generators. There are inherent theoretical limits to the efficiency and output of betavoltaic devices, however their output even at low efficiencies can be quite significant. Betavoltaic technology has a fairly long history (50 years or more,) but has benefitted significantly from recent breakthroughs in materials science, nanotechnology and quantum electrodynamics. Betavoltaic technology holds particular promise for the aerospace, security, and power industries. The environmental impact of this technology appears minimal especially when compared with current battery technology.    }EU researchers extensively characterized the self-organization of nanotubes and developed novel compositions particularly appropriate to solar energy conversion applications. Commercial exploitation of TI- Nanotubes project results has the potential to enhance solar energy efficiency and use with important benefits for the EU economy, EU citizens and the planet. Read more at:   }University of Washington engineers hope to change that. They have designed a concept for a fusion reactor that, when scaled up to the size of a large electrical power plant, would rival costs for a new coal-fired plant with similar electrical output. The team published its reactor design and cost-analysis findings last spring and will present results Oct. 17 at the International Atomic Energy Agency's Fusion Energy Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia. "Right now, this design has the greatest potential of producing economical fusion power of any current concept," said Thomas Jarboe, a UW professor of aeronautics and astronautics and an adjunct professor in physics. Read more at:   }The CETO power system is anchored to the ocean floor and operates out of sight. The technology involves tying up of an array of submerged buoys to seabed pump units. The passing oceanic waves cause the buoys to move harmonically. The pumps are driven by the moving buoys, causing the water pressure to increase. The high-
pressure water is carried to shore via a pipeline. The pressurised water can be used to drive hydroelectric turbines to generate electricity. The entire process consumes zero electricity and causes zero emissions. The water can also be used to drive the pumps of a reverse osmosis plant for desalination, eliminating the consumption of electricity by the pumps.   }alt. fuels like Propane and Natural gas.   }pretty good site on magnetic-propulsion and alt. energy system, still Beta. Already Nicola Tesla used resonances in his first experiments about inductive power transmission more than hundred years ago. Benefits already observed from the design of these products are an increased efficiency of lighting and heating, increased electrical storage capacity, and a decrease in the amount of pollution from the use of energy. Benefits such as these make the investment of capital in the research and development of nanotechnology a top priority. Carbon nanotubes are another possible material for use in an ultracapacitor. Carbon nanotubes are created by vaporizing carbon and allowing it to condense on a surface. When the carbon condenses, it forms a nanosized tube composed of carbon atoms. This tube has a high surface area, which increases the amount of charge that can be stored. The low reliability and high cost of using carbon nanotubes for ultracapacitors is currently an issue of research. While LEDs have been around for decades, this company and others like it have been developing a special variant of LED called the white LED. White LEDs consist of semi-conducting organic layers that are only about 100 nanometers in distance from each other and are placed between two electrodes, which create an anode, and a cathode. When voltage is applied to the system, light is generated when electricity passes through the two organic layers. This is called electroluminescence. The semiconductor properties of the organic layers are what allow for the minimal amount of energy necessary to generate light.   }Solar-power-plant company Ausra has released a paper claiming that solar-thermal electric technology can provide 90 percent of U.S. grid electricity, with enough left over to power a fleet of plug-in electric vehicles. It is through an examination of human interaction with these energies that, I believe, humanity will ultimately expand its understanding of consciousness.
