Online Tools 2016

This is the final update for Online Tools for this year.

                                           Jae Kamel’s URLs Presents

                                                Online Tools 2016

                                                                   836 links.

Microsloth-free for your protection.

I. Web Tools.
II. Web-Hosting and Design Sites.
III. Proxy Sites.
IV. Linux, etc.

Intro: Not all of the useful tools that we have found are here. The image tools will be mostly on Julie Éclair’s Photo List ( ), the video and a/v tools mostly on her Video List ( ). The search engines are mainly on the JKU Research List ( ); and here some of the website analysis websites. The academic search engines and related resources are on the JKU Academic Research List ( ). So, check these other Lists if you don’t find what you’re looking for here. Note that the dictionaries and language tools have been moved to the Academic Research List. There is a list of proxy sites below, which includes lists of proxy sites. Over time, they become DLs, since new URLs for proxy sites is what you’d expect. However, our list, including the lists of list of them, includes at least hundreds of proxy site URLs, so some are probably still “live”. If you’re looking for other online privacy-related URLs, see The Cold List ( ).
We provide the finest support and apps in the world for “legacy” OS and apps, usually for windows; enjoy.
2016 Update: Browser tools and bookmarks added, extensions, add-ons. DLs removed, old links removed.

I. Web Tools.    }online scientific calculator. 14 digit accuracy.       }an alternate download location for the Dup Detector. You might like the other apps on this site. See also PhotoList (  ) for more image tools.    }we consider 7-Zip the best unzipper, and file and archive manager; Total Commander is our second choice. Recommended. 7-Zip can be tricky to use, so use caution with it. Works best when run as administrator, but still works well without. Since most institutional and public computers will not let you run as administrator, we feature apps here that run well under those circumstances. After all, if you could sign on as an administrator, many of these apps wouldn’t be necessary – ! Here is:    }the download site for it. We don’t recommend the 64-bit version unless you’re on a 64-bit Windows 7 or newer OS.  2016 Update: There is now a new version of 7-Zip that uses the new Z-Standard compression and decompression, see “github” below.     }not quite 99, but a few really good web tools here. Some of them are already on this list. We found the “social popularity” search (for URLs) novel. Also tutorials and website widgets.    }we have used and tested this icon explorer 5.1. Recommended for a freeware icon editor. Easy to use, visually simple, small app. Abbsoft has other icon tools as well.    }the Acrylic Wi-fi scanner, free version. This is our second favorite wif scanner after the Xirrus (see below). The Xirrus has features which the Acrylic lacks, but, it is still a good scanner, Recommended. Note that the servers which public routers connect to, don’t respond to pings now, and you can’t run ‘trace route’ on them either. (December 2015).  Here is    }the download link for it.    }Google Shortcuts is a restartless Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari extension to access all Google Products in a single customizable panel. Click on the icon and it takes you to that page.  After the install, open the panel and customize it to have all the useful products into the view section (from the hidden section). Use left-click to open a product in the current tab or use middle-click or Ctrl + left-click to open a product in a new background tab.    }old DOS apps and other handy utilities are here.    }collection of quikbasic and qbasic programs and files. Most of these crash in XP, and are made for DOS only. They are probably 16-bit, and won’t run on XP or any 32-bit OS/PC, partly from the “8+3 filename” problem that we discuss elsewhere on this page. You’ll want a 16-bit DOS emulator in some cases; others may fun in 32-bit, but not until you disable the “8+3” filenames. We have downloaded and tried several of these programs, and, the ones that work at all, work fine. 2015 Update: it is more difficult to run any 16-bit apps on OS after XP, we tested some in W8.1.    }we’ve tested the PNGOUT and KZIP from this page, and they both work fine. This man is a good programmer. For those of you who do image work, IrfanView uses this PNGOUT for compression of .png images, displaying and options box and so on. Works fast and efficiently. IrfanView is listed here, since it has so many different uses; see Julie Éclair’s PhotoList ( ) for more image tools and apps. This page also has links to comparisons between different compressors, with technical notes about how to use them, and so on. There are also many other interesting programs and utilities on this page, enjoy. Site Highly Recommended, especially if like this old stuff.    }Welcome to the ISO Recorder download page. ISO Recorder is a tool (power toy) for Windows XP,  2003, Windows Vista and 7, that allows (depending on the Windows version) to burn CD and DVD images (DVD support is only available on Windows Vista), copy disks, make images of the existing data CDs and DVDs and create ISO images from a content of a disk folder. ISO Recorder has been conceived during Windows XP beta program, when Microsoft for the first time started distributing new OS builds as ISO images. Even though the new OS had CD-burning support (by Roxio), it did not have an ability to record an image.  ISO Recorder has filled this need and has been one of the popular Windows downloads ever since. With an advent of Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 the version 2 of ISO Recorder has been released, which introduced some new features including ISO image creation and support for non-admin user. Finally, in Windows Vista it became possible to address another long-standing request and provide DVD burning capability. Since the very beginning ISO Recorder has been a free tool (for personal use). It is recommended by MSDN download site along with Easy CD and Nero and is used by a number of companies around the world. Latest version is for windows 7 or later.    }excellent software site, find alternative apps. For each app you select, it open a desc. page, and there lists yet more alternatives to that one. We Recommend this one. “We have one mission: helping you find the right software for your computer, mobile phone or tablet. Our main focus is to give you alternatives to software you already know and want to replace. “     }when you go to this site, you’ll see how intelligent this programmer is. We use, and recommend, his Task Manager, as a substitute to the windows task manager. The actual download page is here:    }download DTaskManager here. It comes zipped. Dimio’s other apps are recommended as well. 2015 Update: most OS after Vista will try to block this app. Also, one of its dlls or whatever, is found by most anti-malware or anti-virus programs, so, set those to “report only” to keep using DTaskManager. We use that, and DShutdown. However, starting with W8.1, we don’t use DTaskManager; for processes and task manager, we use Daphne, Process Hacker, and System Explorer (below). Especially when you are not on your own computer (laptop, notebook, tablet), using all 3 together enables them to watch and protect each other. Daphne is not portable so you won’t be able to use it on most systems not your own, unless you can do installs.  But the other two are, and, should always be running together to back each other up. Symantec and other antivirus programs, block DTaskManager, so, it won’t run there either. 2016 Update: DShutdown works well on W 8.1. We no longer use DTaskManager, but would if we were using XP.    }The site has been around quite a while, and over its lifetime it’s amassed a nice assortment of awards. Some for software, some for music, some for reasons that escape me, but I appreciate them all none the less. Small, fast apps, some old. Recommended. His utilities for use “online” – in the browser – are simple but work. We use EscapeClose, and LinkExaminer and Text Examiner; Recommended. We also use his Internet Traffic Report.    }this is, of course, the famous Fred’s freeware links.    }for serial numbers, etc. Left panel has links to other cracked sites. See also “bestserials” below. 2016 Update: this site has not been updated much since 2011.    }cloud computing apps. In our tests so far, not all of these apps work. For instance, the ESET online virus scanner neither scans nor downloads. The desktop ESET is good, though.    }we use this app in place of ResEdit, and find that it works better than (but still with) ResEdit. Recommended for resource management.    }QTranslate is a free translator for Windows (Windows 8/7/Vista/XP). With this small utility, you simply select the text you want to translate and then press the hot key (Ctrl+Q to show translation in the popup window or Double Ctrl click to show the translation in the main window). The program also has the ability to speak text Ctrl+E and perform a dictionary search Win+Q. Also, you can open the main window and type text manually. Note! The program translates text by using online translation services, so you need an Internet connection.   }down load the advanced process termination app from here. It is from Diamond Cs, but they apparently no longer support the product, so we found it here for you. Their current site was here: }now they market commercial anti-virus products, no freeware. What is the apt.exe for? We use various task killers. Some we use for the unique features they have, some since they terminate a process, etc., faster or better, and so on. In bringing these freeware apps to you, we pick the ones suitable for XP, since those will include versions for older OS, and also for newer ones. Many of the homemade apps have versions for XP, Vista, and W7 and W8, so, the well-known commercial ones aren’t any better. Apt has 10 different kill methods and 2 crashers, similar to Process Hacker 2. And it terminates some processes that others do not, and is simple and easy to use. 2015 Update: this application is still downloadable from the URL above.    }The HP16C Emulator is a software simulation of the original HP-16C Computer Scientist calculator, made by Hewlett-Packard during the 80’s, but now discontinued.  Note that this site, the software and the author have no connection whatsoever with Hewlett Packard.  The HP-16C Computer Scientist Calculator was released in 1982.  I bought one new, in 1983 and was very impressed by it’s function and elegance.  This was despite the fact that the device only contained 203 bytes(!) of memory to house both storage registers and programs.  In the fall of 2000 I set out to see if I could accurately create an emulation of the HP-16C in software.   Although the project got temporarily shelved a few times, I have finally finished an emulator which approaches the original goal. This calculator is ideal for programmers, engineers and scientists.  Unfortunately, this model was discontinued many years ago, but is now available again in software form.  This software version has the added advantage of supplying auxiliary views:  A scrollable program view that allows viewing all or most of a program in on the screen at once, as well as the ability to watch the operation of a running program; A Stack view that shows the entire state of the stack, Status and Memory usage at once; A scrollable register view that shows the contents of all the storage registers. “Trialware”.    }this Firefox add-on is one that we’re still using (13sep16), and works in FF 48.0.02. However, you cannot find this extension, or its developer, anywhere on the Mozilla add-ons site !! So, this link from is still good, and you can install the extension from there. It is the Feb. 1, 2013 version. We’re using the August 17, 2016 version 38.0.1, but haven’t found it online for you yet. Let us know if you want to use this, we can help. This extension allows you to open any page in your FF browser, in any other browser you have installed on your computer. We use, as you know, the Chrome and Sundance browsers as well.  This is, of course, the by-now famous Browser View Plus (Playlink) 38.0.1. It was “supported” by MFF as recently as Jul 22, 2015 – and then inexplicably dropped. MFF addd-ons will not find the add-on, under any combination of words, and will not find any of the developers names!  Further it may tell you “not compatible with FF 48“, but don’t believe it. We still use it, and it still works fine. Note: this archive page with the file in it, which you can download today, may not be there tomorrow. Also, MFF may find a way to block this, since they have started blocking or disabling users’ favorite add-ons, starting about 1 year ago, in September, 2015. Finally, there are two others which will do almost the same thing: one in MFF add-ons, and one in Github. The add-on is somewhat different (Browserling, reviewed on this page), and the Github app was too complicated to configure or use. Contact us if you are unable to download the extension. Be sure to use version 38.0.1 or newer, if you’re using FF 48 or newer. Update:  try this link for the add-on:     }Open links, pages, and bookmarks in any other browser or media player. Modify any menu, browser name or location. Incognito/private browsing mode is also supported. Works for all Firefox locales/languages. 2016 Update: this has proven to be very, very difficult to find. So, there is an alternative for other browsers; but this still doesn't give you one-click open in media apps, which Playlink did.     }Open your web pages in Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, or Opera. Open With opens the current page in your other browsers with just one click. Add Open With to your menus, toolbars and developer toolbox.    }the website for Ariolic software is back up, and they make a disk scanner, among other apps, that is free. It is slow, but we recommend it if you need one that’s portable and works on e.g., your flash drive, etc.   }converts any image to ASCII representation, and old trick, but this one cheats and lets you retain the image’s colors which are then (say) background to the ASCII, etc. However the site is awkward to use and the results are unclear. E.g. it says each image automatically posted to (their) gallery but then you can’t find yours, etc. We found it unsatisfying, but you might like it. 2015 DL. Replacement:     }convert a picture to ASCII, text, or HTML.
http://axqzzpkfwezf3kku.onion    }Tor Project: Anonymity Online. 2015 DL. Replacement:
http://udsmewv45lunzoo4.onion/   }TorLinks is a moderated replacement for The Hidden Wiki, and serves as a link or url list of Tor hidden services. Feel free to copy this deep web link list directory to your website to make others aware of the darknet. We regularly update the tor onion sites on this site.   }how to install backtrack on a USB. Note: backtrack will format the USB!!! (See below) 2feb12.    }Theme Font & Size Changer is a simple browser tool that lets you change the font size and font family of Firefox. It is especially valuable tool for visually impaired people and wide screen users. There are three places that you can manage the global font size and font family of Firefox via Theme Font & Size Changer. Add-on Bar icon, toolbar button and Tools menu option. All font size and font family changes are instantly applied and they are saved permanently and through sessions. Different from add-ons that enlarge and reduce text on web pages, Theme Font & Size Changer changes the font size and font family in all windows, menus, toolbars, etc within Firefox itself. Recommended.    }HoeKey is a teeny (19k) program to assign hotkeys to do most anything. Win-N to run notepad, Win-G to google search on current highlighted word, etc etc. It’s configurable with a simple .ini file. Note: in recent versions of windows (2016), some hotkeys, those that use the ‘windows’ key, are already assigned. Some of the other default assignments are to apps or locations that don’t exist in windows now; so, you will rewrite much of the config file. The app automatically displays the config file for your to edit, and notifies you if ther are any problems. It is fast and does work, though.     }Make your PrintScreen button work the way it ought. Save to file, print to printer, or copy to dumb ol’ clipboard. Works in any version of windows, and it’s only 114k.   }very small, fast utilities. We use “wherezit” and “DevMgr”; Recommended.    }lots of “free” software (apps). DL 2015.  Replacement:    }This is the Gizmo’s Freeware editors’ choice list where you’ll find a collection of the very best desktop freeware for Windows from our site. The list now includes 103 applications in various categories. To read brief descriptions of the applications, select a Software Category on top of this page or use the box below to view all software items in one massive list. Note: This list covers Windows desktop or legacy programs. If you’re looking for Windows Store apps or Metro apps, check out Best Free Windows Store Apps.    }Superior protection against phishing attacks and malware. TrafficLight examines and blocks the pages you visit for malware and phishing attempts each and every time you access them. Search and Social-Safe (including on Facebook and Twitter). It also detects and blocks suspicious links on your Facebook wall and Twitter feed. Identifies trackers that report on your browsing behavior. Some website pages may track and analyze your browsing behavior. Bitdefender TrafficLight shows you which pages intercept this type of code snippets that are included in website pages, and lists them.     }this is a good and fast URL shortener which also allow you to keep track of traffic to that URL. Also create a URL with a memorable name.    }we consider this the second-best unzipper and file/archive manager, after 7-Zip. This one has nicer graphics, but is a little confusing to use at first. The link takes you to the download site, and BitZipper is free for the first 30 days. There are many other good apps for packing and unpacking; for example, Total Commander can be used for this. But, 7-Zip is a file manager as well, and can be added to the context menu.   }deletes unnecessary files to free valuable disk space, maintain privacy, and remove junk. Rid your system of old clutter including cache, cookies, Internet history, localizations, logs, temporary files, and broken shortcuts. There are several cleaners available as freeware today. Glary Utilities is also good for cleaning, erasing tracks, and so on. We prefer Bleachbit over CCleaner.   }found on the Tor network, using the DDG .onion search engine. CryptoWall and HELP_DECRYPT Ransomware Information Guide and FAQ. By Lawrence Abrams on July 10, 2014 @ 02:11 PM | Read 431,861 times. CryptoWall is a file-encrypting ransomware program that was released around the end of April 2014 that targets all versions of Windows including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. The media is commonly confusing CryptoWall with the CryptoLocker infection, when it is much more similar to the CryptoDefense ransomware. The most apparent similarity being that CryptoWall’s Decryption Service is almost identical to the one for CryptoDefense. In October 2014, the malware developers released a new version of CryptoWall called CryptoWall 2.0. This new version included some additional changes that are described in the next section. When you are first infected with CryptoWall it will scan your computer for data files and “encrypt” them using RSA encryption so they are no longer able to be opened. Once the infection has encrypted the files on your computer drives it will open a Notepad window that contains instructions on how to access the CryptoWall Decryption Service where you can pay a ransom to purchase a decryption program. The ransom cost starts at $500 USD and after 7days goes up to $1,000. This ransom must be paid in Bitcoins and sent to a Bitcoin address that changes per infected user.   }UnHackMe – First BootWatch AntiRootkit! Now it is the must have tool for you! UnHackMe is specially designed to detect and remove Rootkits (a new generation of Trojan programs – invisible Trojans). A rootkit is a program that a hacker uses to mask intrusion and obtain administrator-level access to a computer or computer network. The intruder installs a rootkit on a computer using a user action or by exploiting a known vulnerability or cracking a password. The rootkit installs a backdoor giving the hacker a full control of the computer. It hides their files, registry keys, and process names, and network connections from your eyes. Your antivirus could not detect such programs because they use compression and encryption of its files. The sample software is Hacker Defender rootkit. UnHackMe allows you to detect and remove Rootkits. UnHackMe tested for removal all modern rootkits: Rustock, Haxdoor, Hacktool, Elite Keylogger etc. 2015 Update: not Recommended for use after Vista.     }Translate the selected text and the full page with Google Translate.By default, the add-on will try to set your detected language for the default target language. If it is not possible then English will be the target language of the translation. It’s highly recommended to select less text than more, otherwise the translation would appear slower. You can select a maximum of 38000-character long text, if you select longer, you’ll get an alert box in some cases. You shouldn’t either select pictures and tables because these will disappear and mystic text will appear there.  }this is our other favorite USB drive tester. Recommended. Warning: test formats (erases) drive. This URL is the actual download page. Warning: if you try to search for these apps yourself, you’ll have your time wasted by apps that don’t work, redirects, dead links, and the usual commercial/malware garbage on the Web these days. One of these USB apps was withdrawn by the site after it was found to contain a Trojan horse. Said horse ruined one of our drives and it has taken us over a week to fix it. Therefore, use the apps we provide for you. 2015 DL. Replacement:   }USB Memory Stick Tester is a small application designed to help testing removable storage media (such as USB memory sticks) for defects. Currently USB Memory Stick Tester works only on Windows XP. It would probably work under Windows 2000, but it might not work under older versions. Unfortunately there is no plan to port the application to other platforms, but if some is willing to port,  we would be more than happy to help.     }The TOC for an old bookmarklets site. These are useful bookmarklets and will still work on any HTML site, and a few on flash and XML sites.    }”Boost provides free peer-reviewed portable C++ source libraries. We emphasize libraries that work well with the C++ Standard Library. Boost libraries are intended to be widely useful, and usable acroFss a broad spectrum of applications. “ They also say to read this:    }Proposed Draft Technical Report on C++ Library Extensions. Download from this link.    }nice model of the Earth in a very small (2.8 MB) program!  Freeware, use it as a desktop if you want to.    }a calculation of the Euler constant to 1000 decimal places. It serves as an example of operations with accurate numbers. Worked perfectly.    }calculates factorials. In our tests, the whole factorial is shown (base 10), through 17.    }Emulator TI-59, version 1.1. Program TI-59 is a programmable calculator simulating a behavior Calculator Texas Instruments TI-59 (TI-58, TI-58C) and printer PC-100A. Programs can be stored in files, in addition to the main program can be implemented in the calculator memory up to 99 programs a library module. Library modules can be any amount. Each program may have a length of 1000 steps (= keystrokes). There are 10000 memory registers.   }the front page for bug me not, so you can bypass compulsory registration.    }another app for bypassing compulsory site registrations. Ironically, this one asks you to sign-up with them! The advantage is that the login ids and passwords have already been used by other people, so they ought to work for the given site immediately. Link goes to the “how to” page. Find more websites like this one on our Cold List   , under “I. Freedom”.   }tells you what a website is built with, organizes the data, goes into some detail.    }the calculator home page. Use this in your browser window.   }so, here is our favorite desktop calculator. Does simple calcs, and some other math you’d find in math apps, pay-for calculators, and so on. Highly Recommended, since it will do the math in binary, octal, hex, decimal, or in any other base you specify, and display the terms and the result in that base.     }online calculators:online javascript calculator, units conversions, properties and constants, loan calculator, mortgage calculator, currency converter, body mass index calculator, basal metabolic rate calculator, total metabolic rate calculator, calories burned for various activities, pregnancy due date calculator, predict distance running time from another distance result, photographic exposure calculator, text version of a number, convert a number to roman numerals, random number generator.   }so, as we catch-up on old URLs, we sometimes find really good ones; and we think that you’ll like the links from this page. Recommended.   }this site instantly performs malware analysis for you on any file you select. Highly recommended. Did very well in our tests.   }her best freeware list. Her other lists had far too many pay-sites on them, and some of these are already on this List, but, FYI.   }more freeware from carol’s vault. Be careful of, “freeware” tricks: redirects to pay site, free trial that wants credit card number, free trial that quits after the trial period, etc..   }Carol’s “essential freeware 2013”. Several apps which we tested and rejected here; and others that are very redundant to their kind. For example, how many “notes organizers”, “post-it notes”, and so on, websites do we need?? Again the caution that many of her links are DLs or lead to “free trials”.   }a collection of free online services, nicely presented and so on. Leads to comparison charts of services in each category; some of theirs are the same ones that we have presented to you, here at JKU, as you’ll see if you look. That is to say, others are now imitating our Service of providing Free webpages, apps, and other items for you to use. 2016 DL.   }the info page for CDex, the CD extractor. This app is user-friendly and Recommended by us.    }the download page for CDex. Be careful when you use this app.   }view and read news about storage products and technology. 18 August 2016. Has free download files, older apps (2008-2012) that are useful if you have XP or other  windows system, but not for older than XP. Photos and specs on newest drives, and so on, especially static and flash.    }classic start menu is a flexible start menu that can mimic the menu behavior of Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. It has a variety of advanced features. Classic Explorer is a plugin for Windows Explorer. Classic Shell adds some missing features to Windows 7 and Windows 8 – like a classic start menu, start button, a toolbar for Windows Explorer and others. We tested this on W8.1, you can customize many things, and make the start menu look like a start menu from XP, Vista, or W7.
2016 Update: We have found this to be one of the Most useful applications to have on 8.1. The latest version can be found on‭ ‬the Classic Shell website:     }Classic Shell, Version‭ ‬4.1.0‭. Recommended.    }copy and paste between computers, using their URL. (untested) 2012 Update: This is the old home for As of Oct 31, 2011 has been shutdown. But in some ways lives on, the source code to the site has been posted to github so anyone that wants to can run a their own copy can. 2015 Update: the website and the app are back. “ lets you move information between computers using your brain. Think up a unique URL that starts this  Example: Enter the URL in a browser and type or paste in what you want. On another computer or smartphone enter in the same URL to retrive the information. For security the information in the cl1p url is destroyed as soon as it is read. Anyone visiting the same URL at a later time will not be able to see the message. is great for cases where you need to move data. (Like the contents of a text file) between devices when e-mail, or shared drives is not pratical. Perhaps you need to move a log file off a computer you don’t  trust. Or you might need to move some clipboard info between two separate computers. is a very quick and convient way to move data between devices connected to the internet.” Worked perfectly in our test. Note: we were not able to find the source code for this app on github.    }analog desktop clock, one of the better freeware clocks. Jae uses this one on his desktop, Jone uses a different one.     } Plot/Print Biorhythms and Biorhythm Compatibility with equal ease! View Biorhythms of celebrities, family and friends or see how compatible you are with them. Universal Biorhythms can plot up to eight different rhythms (including ancient I-Ching rhythms) in both the Biorhythm and Biorhythm Compatibility view. Biorhythm Compatibility and Biorhythms can be printed or saved as JPG/BMP graphics. This is best simple, freeware biorhythm program on the web, and this is the only place you can download it from.  Note: this app is “trialware”, and, writes to your registry the first time you install it. But it is very sneaky: when you uninstall, the registration is not completely cleaned, even with Revo!  So, when the trial time ends, you can never again download and reinstall the app! We dislike that sneakiness, so, even though it is a good freeware biorhythm program, we found one that is freeware, works great, and gives no problems:    }Free and easy biorhythm calculator. This program is based on the western scientific theory of biorhythms, and contains additional features based upon oriental philosophy. It works like a magic mirror, helping you to know the full potential of your capabilities, and prevent rash decisions during critical days.  If you don’t know about biorhythms, there is a good simple explanation there.   }gives simple animated screen captures. LICEcap can capture an area of your desktop and save it directly to .GIF (for viewing in web browsers, etc) or .LCF (see below).  For you non-programmers and non-developers, this is recording your motions when you use, say, an application. You can then watch the GIF (“giff” with the hard “g” sound) anytime, or send it to someone, etc. Similar to recording a macro, as in Microsloth Word; and to programs which will record your mouse movements, such MouseWrangler . LICEcap is GPL free software, each download package includes the source.    }this site has useful freeware and shareware, if you don’t already have apps that perform the same functions. We use teracopy and Recommend it. Site also has android apps for you android users. Note that, although teracopy is faster than windows copy or move for large files, as they claimed, they’re about the same for really small files. Also note that teracopy isn’t always fast; hardware limitations can slow it down, background tasks, and other apps running. Also, turn off your antivirus to speed up teracopy, so that it will be faster than windows copy (or add it to the whitelist). Even though teracopy is sometimes only slightly faster, we still recommend it, since it has other important features that windows lacks. See also below. Note that Teracopy and Total Commander support each other.     }Capsa Free 9.1, Portable network analyzer(packet sniffer) freeware; MAC Scanner Free 2.3, The Most Popular MAC Scan Tool; Ping Tool 2.0, Graphic Ping Tool Can Ping Multiple IP Addresses; Packet Builder 2.0, Create Your Customized Packets; Packet Player 2.0, Replay Packets in Network. Recommended by a thrid-party.   }quicktime required to watch video on this page.     }another online file converter for you. This one worked best for flac to mp3 conversions; the other three didn’t work at all for that. As an example, on a list of 10 hashes, the Cryptohaze Multiforcer achieves 390M steps per second on a GTX260/216SP@1.24ghz card. On a list of 1.4 million hashes with the same card, performance drops to 380M steps per second. This is the password stepping rate – not the search rate. The search rate is 380M * 1.4M passwords per second! The latest version of the Cryptohaze Multiforcer can be found on the Sourceforge project page: supported platforms are Windows, Linux, and OS X. Right now, it’s a 64-bit binary, but the build environment supports 32-bit builds if needed.      }The Cryptohaze GPU Rainbow Cracker is a fully GPU and OpenCL accelerated set of rainbow table tools. Unlike the existing CUDA accelerated rainbow table tools that simply accelerate the stock RainbowCrack tables, the Cryptohaze rainbow tables are a totally ground up implementation. Of major significance is the fact that the reduction function is now something very well suited to GPUs and high speed CPU implementations. While the RainbowCrack reduction function was very good, it was not very fast, and did not scale well onto video cards. The new reduction function is significantly faster and allows for some truly impressive speeds. Additionally, throughout development, feedback from users has been taken, and the Cryptohaze GPU Rainbow Cracker supports many often-requested features, including table headers and the ability to specify a large number of tables to search (until a result is found). The Cryptohaze tools support working on lists of hashes, and also support using as many GPUs as you have in the system to speed cracking.Download the latest versions from  .   }The Rainbow Table tools require a 64-bit OS. This is due to memory mapping the table files into the process space for rapid searching. There’s no way around this unless you use tiny files. Sorry.    }We highly recommend this Cubic Explorer (Copyright 2006-2012 Marko Savolainen). It is a great replacement to windows explorer, and really necessary on OS that don’t have a search feature, such as Windows 7. It is small, fast, many features, and “indy”. We think that you’ll like it. 2015 Update: We don’t use this app much anymore.  We use mostly Q-Dir and TC; and for work on public computers, TC (Total Commander) and the UV (Universal Viewer) are necessary, both with all the plug-ins installed. It is still a very good app, but redunddant; and not as strong against massive security blocks. For instance, on a remote-desktop-computer, on a server, with Symantec running, Cubic Explorer will not run, or work right. 2016 Update: Cubic Explorer is not maintained or supported now. The most recent version that was released,, still works well, and we still use it sometimes, as well; but we have changed our computers and systems a few times since 2012; and now, we use only 2 Explorer replacements, Q-Dir and Total Commander. They are both linked to on this page. Q-Dir is much more customizable, and can do everything that Cubic did. TC is powerful, and we use it on certain systems, which don’t allow the user access to the desktop or to explorer; certain University and Public Library computers are like that; and some public computer in other places, as well; for those, Only TC is powerful enough to replace Explorer where you need to, especially when you can’t have admin privileges. In those situations, we also Recommend google Chrome, which can self-install on such systems, and run, w/o admin priveleges, and download your settings, including extensions and add-ons, from your google account, if the computer will let you go online. We have several individual apps – before they were called applications, just called programs – and some packages, but may not list them all here. However, since many of them run on 16-bit OS and computers, you may have trouble with them on XP. Disabling the “8+3 filenames” often fixes that problem. XP is 32-bit and the old DOS apps usually crash, freeze, or cause Dr. Watson to run. And anything newer, since they’re all 64-bit, won’t run old DOS apps. They are cheap, though; but not current. Here is a better list of more current apps:    }we disagree with the methods of some of these apps but they all work. Most are free, a few are pay-for. In our view, using dictionaries or other brute-force methods, is not very smart. That is, brute-force methods are very old, and almost all systems and apps are protected from them. For example, for many locations that ask for a password, they will lock-up or shut-down after too many attempts are made. One of the current apps, which is supposed to be high-quality, has a dictionary of 300 million words. The network will reject the connection after, say, just a few tries, etc.  More clever methods are protected against now, as well. For instance, too many companies know about Nmap – on this List – and how it works, and so, have their routers or whatever “shielded” against it, many now reject pings, etc. FYI.     }we’ve moved all the other glossaries and dictionaries to the JKU Academic Research List (and a few on other Lists), but, this site has interesting page and links. Also, it’s in Russian, but translates well.    }Generator hesheyVychislyaet hashes and checksums on strings.  This program calculates checksums and hashes (MD5, CRC32, SHA-1) from the specified string. While, speaking in summary, hacking is very easy job, it is like instead of using front door, finding the hidden door of a house and hijacking the precious things. Among all the hacking, hacking via IP address is one of the most common yet powerful beginning.    }Internet Monitor’s aim is to evaluate, describe, and summarize the means, mechanisms, and extent of Internet content controls and Internet activity around the world. The project helps researchers, advocates, policymakers, and user communities understand trends in Internet health and activity through research, analysis, and data visualization.     }The Berkman Center for Internet & Society is delighted to announce the launch of the Net Data Directory, a free, publicly available, searchable database of different sources of data about the Internet. It is available for Windows 9x, NT and 2000, there is no UNIX version available although it is a possibility at some point in the future. Brutus was first made publicly available in October 1998 and since that time there have been at least 70,000 downloads and over 175,000 visitors to this page. Development continues so new releases will be available in the near future. Brutus was written originally to help me check routers etc. for default and common passwords.    }best desktop calendar we could find. Small, fast, simple. Date on sys tray, easily visible. Our laptop’s clock lost 5 seconds over a month or two. TimeSync gets the current time from a NIST server, and adjusts the PC clock if necessary. Although the exact time is also supplied by Windows or (probably) by your router, you may want to have an extra tool that checks the time at your will. Time and date are displayed according to the user’s regional settings. Accuracy is usually within a second. It works just as well for DVDs. Highly recommended. While there are several utilities to do this, we couldn’t find any that we liked. Specifically, we wanted to be able to do it from the command line so that we could call it from a script, and we wanted duplicate files on our local drive for subsequent processing by another application. The free ITR Client for Windows is now available for download, and allows you to monitor ITR in realtime, test your connection when problems occur and more!    }we use Advanced System Care from Iobit, and recommend it. It is similar to some of the other apps on this list, but combines many features all into one app. Like most of the freeware, they use some features to push you to “upgrade” (purchase their pro version). However, for some of the apps both shareware and freeware, the pro version offers very few improvements. This app can improve Windows performance in some ways that the other don’t, except for DTaskManager.    }Free IP Address Lookup. What is my IP? IP address finder, Speedtest and more.

Redirect Control is a security add-on that enables you to allow or deny redirects from web pages. It displays the origin and destination of a request and lets you decide whether to perform the request or not. We find this to be one of the most important extensions to have. It is compact and fast, and combines many features that you would normally find in separate applications. It’s described as a graphic viewer, but you can listen to sound files, view videos, make slideshows (with .scr extension so that you can use them as screensavers on windows, or with an .exe extension) and panoramas, etc. We think that you’ll like this freeware. One drawback: when you make panoramic images from your image files, or make screensavers from your images, with the .scr or .exe extensions, the image quality is somewhat reduced from the originals. Irfanview has a variety of ways, however, to specify reproduction or processing formats and protocols. Also does batch processing of images and other files. For the other image viewers that we Recommend, see Julie Eclair’s PhotoList  .  Download and install all the plugins for Irfanview.    }website checks selected site to see if it is ‘up’ or ‘down’; says if it is “down just for you” or not. It is very easy to add apps to the NirLauncher. If you are doing some serious windows system work, NirLauncher, with at least the Nirsoft bundled apps and the Sysinternals, is Highly Recommended for you. We Highly Recommend the Nirsoft apps anyway; Nir Sofer is a person like us, and makes small, fast apps that are simple and easy to user. However, first you will want to read this:    }page with all the instructions and warnings, we recommend that you do not skip this page. It adds a number of useful features to the right-click or context menu. For us, some of those features were redundant to apps and so on that we already had, but, having them one right-click away speeds up the work. Highly Recommended. We are also testing the editor, LopeEdit, now and will add it here later. 2013 Update: see below for LopeEdit. 2016 Update:  After using windows from XP-sp2 to 8.1, we have found that this File Menu Tools is probably the single most important tool we use, that isn’t a regular app. It provides a way out of many windows traps, both in windows, and in applications, as well.     }LopeEdit is one of the two apps we’ve chosen as the Best notepad replacements. Both of these apps have many features that coders, techs, and programmers would look for. So, they go basically far beyond being merely replacements for notepad. (And Synwrite, is still better than the new notepad in W7 and W8, BTW.) We use the “Light” version, since it is the free one; the Pro version has even more convenient features, such as code templates manager, external tools, multiple clipboards management, buit-in hexadecimal editor. Light version has a built-in file browser, find results widows, quick view, open files from Net (similar to Total Commander), syntax highlighting for a dozen languages, printing preview, configurable tool bars and menues. Recommended. See also Synwrite, the other app we’ve picked, which works very well with this one. Remember that our criteria are, must be freeware, or at the most “generous” shareware; must be small and fast, must run in 32-bit and 64-bit OS. It also must be simple, easy (as possible) to use, and so on. Lope Edit is the best as a text editor, but very for a quick notepad or for quick code changes. The download link    }is here.    }we usually carry only freeware here, but, this link is to the “basic” version of the software, and less espensive than the “enterprise” or “professional” versions. All recovered passwords are saved and ready to be reused on other files. Demo version recovers either the first 3 letters of passwords, or passwords containing no more than 3 characters. The extension was created to assist people who like to use HTML pages to link to local files or files located on a network share. For example linking to local files from a wiki page.  Scans for local file system URIs (file:///) on any page. Click on the added icon to open the local link with the system’s file manager. Automated process of copying video source URL from network console and pasting into favorite player by intercepting HTTP video file requests. Highly recommend using with uBlock Origin to block Flash video adverts or something that stops videos playing automatically without user interaction. To activate use the toolbar icon and start the video in the browser as normal. The default player path is configured as ‘C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe’ … I use smplayer whatever works best for you … Only tested on windows but should work on other OS’s. Small thing, but sometimes very useful. Total Commander does this also. DL 2015. For a replacement, see the Nirsoft apps listed on this page.     }Brutal Force – a program that implements the algorithms used in the title (ie straight through all the combinations) for guessing the password to a rar-or zip-archive. The unregistered version of the password length is limited to four characters, but it can be increased up to 50 characters. Also during registration you can edit the symbol table, which is carried out too much, and change the priority of the program. It has a simple user interface, requires no installation. To work it needs a file UnRar.exe, which comes with it. This UnRar.exe 3.20 Beta 4 freeware, the same file is in the standard distribution WinRar’a any version. If WinRar installed on your computer (C: \Program Files \WinRar), then the program takes it from there. (Note that all the text on the application panels is in Russian characters, which windows shows as question marks.) DL 2015. Brute-force password guessers won’t work anymore (2015) for 99% of all places where they would have worked in the past. So, apps like this one and John The Ripper ( ), and so on, are useful for study, teaching and learning now – but not much else. Replacements: Several crackers are listed here:   }In the past few years, programmers have developed many password cracking tools. Source code is distributed in bzip2 and gzip compressed tar files, and binaries are available for Linux (RPM format), Windows (NSIS executable installer) and Mac OS X (.dmg disk image). Find all of this at  . Nmap has traditionally been a command-line tool run from a Unix shell or (more recently) Windows command prompt. This allows experts to quickly execute a command that does exactly what they want without having to maneuver through a bunch of configuration panels and scattered option fields. One downside of the command-line approach is that it can be intimidating for new and infrequent users. Nmap offers more than a hundred command-line options, although many are obscure features or debugging controls that most users can ignore. Many graphical front-ends have been created for those users who prefer a GUI interface. Nmap has traditionally included a simple GUI for Unix named NmapFE, but that was replaced in 2007 by Zenmap, which we have been developing since 2005. Zenmap is far more powerful and effective than NmapFE, particularly in results viewing. Zenmap’s tab-based interface lets you search and sort results, and also browse them in several ways (host details, raw Nmap output, and ports/hosts). It works on Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, and other platforms.     }Zenmap is the official graphical user interface (GUI) for the Nmap Security Scanner. Saved scans can be compared with one another to see how they differ. Obviously most of you have noticed that it is basically impossible to upload photos to FB in the regular way anymore (October 2012), and so you have to use these apps to do it now. They themselves are not smooth, and the uploader is problematical, and FB inserts too many extra steps, and so on.    }WiZ 5.03 is a compression and file packaging utility. Although highly compatible both with PKWARE’s PKZIP and PKUNZIP utilities for MS-DOS and with Info-ZIP’s own Zip program, its primary objectives have been portability and non-MSDOS functionality. UnZip will list, test, or extract files from a .zip archive, commonly found on MS-DOS systems. The default behavior (with no options) is to extract into the current directory (and subdirectories below it) all files from the specified zipfile.    }this is the download page for the latest version of Total Commander. TC is similar to the 7-Zip file Manager which many of you, of course, use, but has many features that 7Z does not. We have found TC to be very useful, and it is Highly Recommended as a replacement for windows explorer, such as Q-Dir is.  That alone should be enough to cause you to download it, but, we’ll also mention that Total Commander, TeraCopy, and Directory Opus all support each other. These apps all provide you with much better ways to do what you could do with Windows built-in or bundled apps, which we Don’t Recommend that you do.   }download the DVD Author Tools from here. They aren’t supporting it past XP, so it isn’t available for Vista or W7. However, we use XP on one of our computers, and have found this to be very useful and helpful even though it duplicates features that we have in other apps. The point is that it adds folder size, etc., to the details available for folder view, so you don’t have to start another app to get the folder sizes, etc. Recommended. 32-bit and 64-bit versions available. Folder size doesn’t work on W8 or any later OS.    }Benchmark values for old versions of Lamark Speed Test, are archived here, for historical and comparison purposes. This application makes it easier to diagnose TCP/IP connection problems. For common server types, you probably want to check under the ‘Common’ menu option. If you don’t find your server, you can create a generic client under the ‘Generic’ menu option. This client can connect to any type of server given the right server name / IP address and port. You may also create a generic server under the ‘Generic’ menu option to mimic a server on any port (if available.) Use the ‘Advanced’ menu option to step through the entire socket process (Bind, Connect / Listen, Send, Shutdown, Close). Use the ‘Bridge’ menu to trace /analyze /diagnose the conversation between any client and server. Check the tools menu for special functions. Use the ‘Trace’ menu option to setup tracing to the screen and / or a log file. We tested the malware removal page. Many marketers of online apps should remember that all public and most school users of computers, including at colleges and universities, can’t install anything. This has been a big flaw in most online apps, especially anti-virus etc. ones. That is, there is a huge market out there in public and school computers, where the users have the same needs, which aren’t served by existing online apps. We checked the first app that offered “free malware removal scan”,, but sadly, it did nothing of the kind, and then tried to install itself on a protected computer and, of course, failed. It did neither scanning nor removal from either its website or from, say, one of the computer temp folders, and so on. The other “free malware removal” link led also to stopzilla.  2015 DL.  Searching for a replacement app link for you, we found that there are some good ones in two categories: (1)online scanners, and (2) offline removers. It’s 100% free, no registration required. Page linked to discusses what they call, Polynomial Time (P).
The question is, why is P called “easy” ? And the first answer is, Probably for historical reasons, and since it has some convenient mathematical properties such as being closed under composition. Nowadays people are also interested in quasilinear time algorithms. – “easy” is not really the same as “efficient”. But it is sometimes used as the opposite duality as “hard” another common term in complexity theory. fyi this is nearly the same as, why is PTime considered ‘efficient’. One is about startup lists, what to do about them, links to apps, etc., and the other one is for CLSID lists, formerly known as BHO lists. We, after research, used BHO Demon. Use this page: }this is the only download page we could find for BHO Demon. However, it is no longer supported. The site that had the support files are ‘down’ now. Instead, for the same purpose, we recommend toolbar cop (below). 2013 Update: Toolbar Cop and its kind will be on The Internet Archive, or gone. There are newer, much better apps that will do the same thing, and more. (Manage BHOs and CSLIDs.) However, we have kept a copy for use with so-called Legacy systems, i.e., older computers and OS. We use some 16-bit computers in our lab. Many of the old apps we have there are for you, who have kept an old 16-bit computer running. Contact us, we can send one to you if you can’t find it online. People who use old machines know what we mean: the RAM is much, much smaller, the memory is smaller, and the chips are slower in them.    }this is the latest version of the Toolbar Cop that we are aware of. Highly Recommended. Can be configured to open the current file in other apps you specify, and these can be buttons on the toolbar. The Viewer will open many formats without the usual companies’ apps; you don’t have to have Adobe, etc., installed to open many types of file. Free File Viewer will also, but is somewhat crude compared to the Universal Viewer. Universal Viewer also opens Word documents, and we use it to browse through Word docs, pdfs, etc., mixed files in a folder. This is the only app which allows you to browse through any mixed files in any folder. It also open multimedia files, but their players are a little crashy and a second or third choice. Imagine or Irfanview are preferred, Irfanview has the second best freeware media player, Recommended. Add it to the context menu. For image editors, see Julie Éclair’s Photolist (  ). Also view webpages w/o a browser. DL 2015. Replacement:    }Universal Viewer Pro differs from the Universal Viewer Free, it has more powerful viewers. We also recommend that you download and install all the plug-ins for TC. There is a plug-in manager to make that much easier for you here: . We also want you to note that TC is really perfect for XP; and some do still use XP; we, for example, still use it on one of our laptops, an older model that is not ready for 64-bit. Most TC apps and plug-ins are 32-bit. That makes TC perfect for people with older hardware and software, and there are many of them. Note that TC is one of three apps shown on this page, which we use, which will up- and down-load from FTP sites, the other two are Synwrite and Lope Edit.    }EDXOR is a versatile, convenient and optimal text editor and file processor that far surpasses the capabilities of other Notepad-like applications. This one about halfway between Free File Viewer and IrfanView, or like a cross between them. And even though this will open most images and some multi-media, it also will open technical files and such; so it is here as well as with the imager viewers and editors, most of which are on Julie Éclair’s PhotoList ( ). The Universal Viewer has a setting to add it to the context menu, and many other useful features. It is also (a) available as a plug-in for Total Commander, and, when used stand-alone, it uses most of the same plug-ins or add-ons or extensions, that Total Commander (TC) uses. It has a full-featured navigation panel that opens in a separate window. All the toolbars, menues, and plug-ins are configurable by the user, and has 8 built-in encodings for viewing. Basically all the features you would inspect in a Universal Viewer. For Word/Excel/PDF files, no additional software is needed to view these files. MS Office/Adobe Reader/etc. not needed at all. For multimedia files, no external codecs are needed either. Be sure to get all the plug-ins, add-ons, or extensions for this, since that is what makes it “Pro” quality. This is   }the page for the Lister plug-ins; page has links to all the TC plug-ins. Highly Recommended.    }We recommend that you download this freeware and shareware Editor. We looked for a long time to find the best of these, and this is one of two. We also  have seen the advanced Notepad ++; but this app is still better. Synwrite and Lope Edit are both very good for coders and technical folks, for programmers. Highly Recommended. Synwrite is also available as a plug-in for Total Commander (on this page). We can link directly to LopeEdit from the context menu or using the icon on the quick-launch taskbar. Synwrite as a built-in panel for adding it to the context menu. Both of these apps have features that are exactly what coders and script writers would want, would look for, short of using an actual SDK.  The Synwriter has the EControl Syntax Editor SDK, which has the syntax for about 50 different languages, see website. Synwrite can be configured to be 1-click away from LopeEdit or TC. Synwrite is also useful as a text editor. Current version is 6.16.1990.    }this is one of our favorite flash drive & card testers. As time permits I am slowly working to bring in updated support for Win7 and x64 systems. It has been primarily developed on WinXP machines.” The old links he gave have all been updated. Downloads immediately. Note: 2013 Update: our preferred media player is now the Media Player Classic Home Cinema, as supplied with the K-Lite Codec Pack. We use the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack; see links on Julie Éclair’s Videolist . We found that the VLC media player, had too many problems, crashed, and was too difficult to understand. Yes, they have manuals, Wiki-type tutorials, and so on; but our point is that, we shouldn’t have to study and read so much, take classes in school, just to use a media player, a freeware one that’s supposed to be accessible to anyone. We read nothing for the MPCHC, not even the “readme”, and it works straightforwardly and doesn’t crash. The control panels for VLC should have tooltips and explanations programmed into them. We did note that this list contains no apps for recording the audio of videos as they play on your computer. And again, users of public and school computers have no access to, e.g., the computer’s sound card, or any of that, so, there is a huge untapped market of users who need software that will enable them, for example, to record the audio of videos, or even the video of videos, and so on. September 2011 Update: We have since found several apps, one of which meets our criteria (fast, free, and friendly), for recording audio and video that you’re playing. Drawback: must have an FLV player (we found 2 good ones) or convert the file type (we found 1 offline app and 1 good website for conversions). For example, you could combine the addresses and photographs of your library branches with a Google map to create a map mashup. The term implies easy, fast integration, frequently using open application programming interfaces (open API) and data sources to produce enriched results that were not necessarily the original reason for producing the raw source data. The term mashup originally comes from British – West Indies slang meaning to be intoxicated, or as a description for something or someone not functioning as intended. In recent English parlance it can refer to music, where people seamlessly combine audio from one song with the vocal track from another—thereby mashing them together to create something new. The main characteristics of a mashup are combination, visualization, and aggregation. It is important to make existing data more useful, for personal and professional use. To be able to permanently access the data of other services, mashups are generally client applications or hosted online.     }”Creat your website now!”  “What is it? It consists of many servers, in every country of your country list. These servers are provided and managed by us. If you use anonymoX’s anonymization network without paying, that is only possible because you indirectly participate in the server funding by viewing advertisements. Instead of accessing a website directly, it will be first opened by one of our servers, called a Proxy. This Proxy hides your true internet identity and makes it look as if not you, but the Proxy is currently visiting the website. AnonymoX is an initiative for anonymization on the internet. The aim is to restore the users right of anonymity in the web. Most websites monitor the behaviour of their users, giving the websites hosts the ability to analyze the general users behaviour and create detailed user profiles, which are frequently sold to third parties. A threat for freedom of speech on the internet manifests in the repression through federal or private organizations. More and more governments censor websites with the excuse of child safety, copyright infringement or the fight against terrorism and thereby limit the freedom of speech. It helps you to use the Internet anonymously and circumvent censorship almost anywhere you go and on any computer but leaving no trace unless you ask it to explicitly. It is a complete operating system designed to be used from a DVD, USB stick, or SD card independently of the computer’s original operating system. It is Free Software and based on Debian GNU/Linux. Tails comes with several built-in applications pre-configured with security in mind: web browser, instant messaging client, email client, office suite, image and sound editor, etc. Tails relies on the Tor anonymity network to protect your privacy online: all software is configured to connect to the Internet through Tor; if an application tries to connect to the Internet directly, the connection is automatically blocked for security. You can also use Tails to access I2P which is an anonymity network different from Tor. Using Tails on a computer doesn’t alter or depend on the operating system installed on it. So you can use it in the same way on your computer, a friend’s computer, or one at your local library. After shutting down Tails, the computer will start again with its usual operating system. Tails is configured with special care to not use the computer’s hard-disks, even if there is some swap space on them. The only storage space used by Tails is in RAM, which is automatically erased when the computer shuts down. So you won’t leave any trace on the computer either of the Tails system itself or what you used it for. That’s why we call Tails “amnesic”.    }Installing Tails can be quite long but we hope you will still have a good time. I2P is an anonymous network, exposing a simple layer that applications can use to anonymously and securely send messages to  each other. The network itself is strictly message based (a la IP), but there is a library available to allow reliable streaming communication on top of it (a la TCP). All communication is end to end encrypted (in total there are four layers of encryption used when sending a message), and even the end points (“destinations”) are cryptographic identifiers (essentially a pair of public keys). Within the I2P network, applications are not restricted in how they can communicate – those that typically use UDP can make use of the base I2P functionality, and those that typically use TCP can use the TCP-like streaming library. We have a generic TCP/I2P bridge application (“I2PTunnel”) that enables people to forward TCP streams into the I2P network as well as to receive streams out of the network and forward them towards a specific TCP/IP address. I2PTunnel is currently used to let people run their own anonymous website (“eepsite”) by running a normal webserver and pointing an I2PTunnel ‘server’ at it, which people can access anonymously over I2P with a normal web browser by running an I2PTunnel HTTP proxy (“eepproxy”). In addition, we use the same technique to run an anonymous IRC network (where the IRC server is hosted anonymously, and standard IRC clients use an I2PTunnel to contact it).   }their download page. Due to the routing of traffic through other peers, the average speed will be considerably lower than on the clearnet, but this won’t be a major burden for sharing e-books, since these are generally quite small. In my experience, the average speed is about 17KBps per torrent, but I’m not sure if this is representative for all I2P torrent users. Various websites, video games, and miscellaneous connections to the Internet share information about the network’s location and host. The simplest way to prevent sharing this information, while still being able to connect to the Internet is by hiding the individual’s and his/her Internet enabled device’s IP address. To do this,  the user has to use a proxy server to hide the original IP.    }I2P, short for the Invisible Internet Project, spawned in 2003, and is an anonymizing network that focuses on secure internal connections between users. Tor, on the other hand, largely focuses on allowing users to reach the regular internet anonymously (called the clearnet). In other words, we can think of Tor as being a path to the regular internet, while I2P seeks to create its own internet. In this light, we can already see that these two services are apples and oranges, thus there is no reason to say that one is better than another. Unfortunately this debate regularly takes place.    }Hidden Services are in a peculiar situation. While they see a loyal fan-base, there are no dedicated Tor developers to take care of them. This should give us a good balance of servers tested every 2 minutes and ones that might be on the page all day without being tested until the next time they are displayed. You can add as many as you like, but only 30 will be displayed on any given day. We may never get that many in any case, but better to have a policy in place before things get out of hand. “ ” The majority of the web pages on this site contain free proxy lists. More specifically each of these web pages contain a free Public Proxy IP list. Some of the lists are for HTTP and HTTPS and so target just your browsing of the Internet, some are for Sockets, anonymizing everything on your device, and some of the other IP lists offer different levels of anonymity. However, if you are looking for a web site that permits you to type in the URL of the site you wish to visit anonymously, and have it take you there immediately, then you are looking for a Web Proxy Server, not a list of free proxy IP addresses. In that case here is a link to a maintained list of Web Proxy Servers. We test and rate every free proxy IP before displaying it on our site. New proxy server IPs listed on this page are added at a rate of approximately one every 2 minutes, and once a day for all the other free proxy lists. The speed(Latency) and anonymity rating(Level) of each free proxy is tested by our servers and is then displayed along with the organisation/ISP, and up to date geographic information such as city and country of origin. “ 64 links on the page. “Saturday January 9, 2016“ on the page.     }list of URL proxies. 2016 Update: We don’t like W10 and so, the newest Windows OS we test for is W8.1. Note the new links and sites for 2016 below.    }Definition: wget: retrieves files from the web Wget is a network utility to retrieve files from the Web using http and ftp, the two most widely used Internet protocols. It works non-interactively, so it will work in the background, after having logged off. The program supports recursive retrieval of web-authoring pages as well as ftp sites –you can use wget to make mirrors of archives and home pages or to travel the Web like a WWW robot. Wget works particularly well with slow or unstable connections by continuing to retrieve a document until the document is fully downloaded. Re-getting files from where it left off works on servers (both http and ftp) that support it. Both http and ftp retrievals can be time stamped, so wget can see if the remote file has changed since the last retrieval and automatically retrieve the new version if it has. Wget supports proxy servers; this can lighten the network load, speed up retrieval, and provide access behind firewalls. See GNU wget (below).     }Well, another very remarkable essay, that I am proud to present. I want to have both Linux and windows on my laptop may you help my how I can do it? Microsoft Windows really created a big mess for all Linux distributions. If you have a pre-installed Windows 8 system, you will probably never be able to install Ubuntu or any other OS in the normal (LiveCD/LiveUSB) or Wubi way. This is because Windows 8 introduced several new features, of which 2 are: UEFI which substitutes what we have known as the BIOS (an alternative to), and Secure Boot which prevents anything but the installed operating system, in this case Windows 8 from booting. This is no longer the case for Ubuntu since 12.04.2 I also want to notify that I spend this week testing 15.04 and had an excellent outcome. Of 12 Laptops ( 4 Toshibas, 3 HP & 5 Lenovo) where Windows 8.1 was pre-installed, on all cases, Ubuntu detected the Windows Boot Manager correctly, gave the option to install alongside Windows 8.1 (It actually said Install alongside Windows Boot Manager) and solved any issues that appeared on previous Ubuntu versions. I basically did not have to do anything else on this cases. This was with Secure Boot on and on an EFI enabled boot system. This does not mean that in your cases it will work perfectly, it just means that on my cases, I had a 100% Ubuntu Perfect installation. Again, with 15.04 (On all cases it was 64-bit).

You must rebuild your application from source if you want it to run on Windows; isn’t a way to magically make native Windows apps aware of UNIX® functionality like signals, ptys, etc. Again, you need to build your apps from source if you want to take advantage of Cygwin functionality. The Cygwin DLL currently works with all recent, commercially released x86 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows, starting with Windows XP SP3. The most recent version of the Cygwin DLL is 2.3.0. Install it by running setup-x86.exe (32-bit installation) or setup-x86_64.exe (64-bit installation). Use the setup program to perform a fresh install or to update an existing installation. Note that individual packages in the distribution are updated separately from the DLL so the Cygwin DLL version is not useful as a general Cygwin release number.    }’git’ tutorial primer. “My name is Daniel Miessler and I work in Information Security based out of San Francisco, California. Note: this “git” primer does not explain what it is, what “git” itself is. That’s typical of various computer products broadly called software or systemware, including network systems and application, including platforms, protocols, and so and so on. So, we did some checking…. First, git is a type of VCS. What is a VCS? “Veritas Cluster Server (also known as VCS and also sold bundled in the SFHA product) is a High-availability cluster software, for Unix, Linux and Microsoft Windows computer systems, created by Veritas Software (now part of Symantec). It provides application cluster capabilities to systems running other applications, including database, network file sharing, and electronic commerce websites. High availability clusters (HAC) improve application availability by failing them over or switching them over in a group of systems—as opposed to High Performance Clusters, which improve application performance by running them on multiple systems simultaneously. Most Veritas Cluster Server implementations attempt to build availability into a cluster, eliminating single points of failure by making use of redundant components like multiple network cards, storage area networks in addition to the use of VCS. “. Second, what is git itself? “The Linux kernel is an open source software project of fairly large scope. For most of the lifetime of the Linux kernel maintenance (1991–2002), changes to the software were passed around as patches and archived files. In 2002, the Linux kernel project began using a proprietary DVCS called BitKeeper .In 2005, the relationship between the community that developed the Linux kernel and the commercial company that developed BitKeeper broke down, and the tool’s free-of-charge status was revoked. This prompted the Linux development community (and in particular Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux) to develop their own tool based on some of the lessons they learned while using BitKeeper. Some of the goals of the new system were as follows: Speed, Simple design, Strong support for non-linear development (thousands of parallel branches), [and] Fully distributed[.] Able to handle large projects like the Linux kernel efficiently (speed and data size) Since its birth in 2005, Git has evolved and matured to be easy to use and yet retain these initial qualities. It’s incredibly fast, it’s very efficient with large projects, and it has an incredible branching system for non-linear development.“ So how would you define a repository? As Super GRUB2 Disk uses GRUB2, the differences between GRUB Legacy and GRUB2 also apply to the different versions of Super GRUB Disk. Perhaps the most notable difference between Super GRUB Disk based on grub legacy and Super GRUB2 Disk is that Super GRUB2 Disk does not write to the disk at all, and so cannot rewrite the MBR. Super GRUB2 Disk can only be used to boot a broken system, it cannot fix it directly. Though once a system is booted, re-installing grub is usually just a matter of running “grub-install /dev/sda”. While there are some features of Super GRUB Disk based on GRUB legacy that will never be included in Super GRUB2 Disk, the opposite is also true. For instance, Super GRUB2 Disk supports booting OSX, loop booting from iso files, booting an OS from USB without USB support in the BIOS, and other features that are not possible with GRUB legacy.       }This is an exciting release. A BartPE system image is created using PE Builder, a freewares program created by Bart Lagerweij. It requires a legal copy of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. Additional applications can be included in the image using plugins.[1] As it often resides on a Live CD or USB drive, BartPE allows a user to boot Windows, even if a hardware or software fault has disabled the installed operating system(s) on the internal hard drive — for instance, to recover files. It can also be used to scan for and remove rootkits, viruses and spyware (that have infected boot files), or to reset a lost administrator password.     }Windows Preinstallation Environment (AKA Windows PE and WinPE) is a lightweight version of Windows used for the deployment of workstations and servers or troubleshooting an operating system while it is offline.
